I like them. Before entering graduate school I had work clothes and shoes (quite formal), and workout clothes and shoes, with little in between. This is part of my attempt at starting to bridge the gap. They're comfortable, and certainly go well with my jeans. I've also worn them with "business casual" (ooh, breaking out!)/blazer/sport jacket, etc. The stripe adds flair to what would otherwise be my typical plain black or brown Kenneth Coles or Bostonians. I'll be looking for similar options in the coming months.
